La Casa del Barranco is a traditional Canarian house built in 1910.
As many houses in Tenerife, the “old” road establishes the delimitation of the house and it takes us all around the island through the villages.
At the beginning, the family house was divided into three spaces:
- The first space was on one side of the road, where the family would gather and welcome visitors from other parts of town in the spacious living room, the kitchen and the wine cellar.
- The second space, on the other side of the road, is where now stands La Casa del Barranco. Back in the day, this was where the bedrooms were.
- The third space, right under the bedrooms, is a large cellar that was used to store the family’s harvest, mostly potatoes and wine. This cellar served as a shop during war times, and it helped people who struggled to find food at the time.
All around La Casa del Barranco, there are vegetable gardens that the family used to grow their own produce, like tomatoes and potatoes, which they also exported to America.
Ships from the United States would bring the wood that ended up on our walls, floor and ceiling. If we take a closer look, we can still see the “U.S.A.” stamp on some of the boards.
The wooden floor and walls make La Casa del Barranco a cosy home with a lot of charm. The big windows and doors also add to the spaciousness and brightness of the house, making it the perfect space for a tranquil stay where you can relax away from the city and surrounded by history.
